The suspect at the center of a two hour standoff Tuesday night with police in southern Indiana faced a judge for the first time Wednesday afternoon. 27-year-old John Pyle faces three charges; a felony residential entry and two misdemeanors for invasion of privacy and criminal mischief. Pyle was escorted out of his parent's house surrounded by officers after a peaceful end to the standoff in the 3200 block of Magnolia Court in Floyd County. That standoff between a man and police in New Albany has ended peacefully. Dozens of police and the New Albany SWAT team converged on a home off of Plantation Drive, near the Charlestown Road area. Surrounded by officers and escorted out of his parents' house.

Two teenagers and one adult have been arrested in Floyd County in connection with a series of thefts from automobiles in the Georgetown area. According to a press release from Floyd County Sheriff Darrell Mills, there were numerous break-ins during the month of December and the department developed several leads in January that led to the arrests. Police say a fatal wreck in Floyd County happened on a road with a high rate of accidents. It happened around 1:15 Friday on Highway 150 near Schuler and Borden Roads. Floyd County Sheriff Darrell Mills says a pickup truck dropped off the shoulder, struck a guardrail, then crossed the center line and struck a car.

Another round of heavy snow led to more traffic woes in Southern Indiana on Monday. A combination of below-freezing temperatures, gusty winds and steady snowfall that began Sunday night and continued through the day Monday led to what police described as the worst driving conditions this winter. "We've had a bunch of slide-offs," Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin said.

Floyd County Sheriff Darrell Mills said a Greenville man drove his 13-year-old son out to burglarize a home, believing his son would not receive as harsh of a punishment as he would if caught. Floyd County police received a report of an attempted burglary on the 4800 block of Quarry Road, off Corydon Pike, on Saturday. Bradley J. Tush, 38, and his juvenile son allegedly tried to break into the home.

He was getting his son, who is a juvenile, to do burglaries thinking that if he got caught, his son probably wouldn’t be in as much trouble   -Darrell Mills

Floyd County, IN detectives have arrested three men suspected of breaking into several homes in Georgetown over the Christmas holidays. Sheriff Darrell Mills says they would go on their crime spree before dawn. A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested Thursday night.

Floyd County Sheriff's Department Detective Joel White was named Officer of the Year for 2009, the first full year since White returned from a shooting that seriously injured him and killed his partner, Frank Denzinger. "I appreciate the award, and I appreciate the support of people like (Chief) Ted Heavrin who helped to make that happen," White said. Sheriff Darrell Mills said White was not quite ready to become a detective when he returned to work in April of 2008.

A series of early morning residential burglaries this week has Floyd County police urging homeowners to take precautions and be on the look-out for suspicious behavior. One burglary was reported Monday morning in the 1600 block of Miller Lane in Georgetown. On Tuesday, burglaries were reported in the 7400 block of Tandy Road in Lanesville and the 7100 block of Corydon Ridge Road in Georgetown.

Most burglars go out of their way to make sure no one is in the residence when they burglarize the home   -Darrell Mills
